Corporate accountability on environment and human rights isn't just a good idea -- it's the law. But it isn't being enforced.

"Off the Books! Environment & Human Rights" is a new 30-minute film by Attorney Sanford Lewis that describes the potential and limits of an enforceable, disclosure-based strategy for corporate accountability. Picking up on current public attention around the Enron scandal, this film provokes discussion of broad issues regarding corporate disclosure of public health, social and environmental issues. It calls for better enforcement and clearer reporting standards from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Even from the covers of Business Week and the Wall Street Journal, the demand for corporate responsibility is becoming widespread. But unfortunately, in most of the business world that call does not recognize the role of Wall Street in environment, health and human rights issues. "Off the Books" is helping to bridge that gap... the message has never been more needed than it is now.

The video has generated lively discussions among hundreds of viewers at conferences and public screenings, and created enormous interest in holding more screenings across the U.S. through business and law schools, investor groups, and public interest organizations. Free Speech TV has also offered to broadcast the film in September-October 2002, which would reach over eight million households.
